one purpose
To lead worship that enables people to encounter Christ.
four ministry goals
-
To engage our minds in the act of worshiping God. To shift our minds from thinking about what is seen to that which is unseen.
"Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." (Colossians 3:1-3)
-
To engage our hearts in the act of worshiping God. To stir our heart and emotions with the liberating truth of Christ's work on our behalf. God wants us to know ...
"how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses all knowledge, that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." (Ephesians 3:16-19) Upon receiving His great love, we respond passionately to "love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." (Deuteronomy 6:5)
-
To engage your wills in surrender to God. To confess our sins, fears and self-dependency to God. To approach God with honesty and vulnerability, opening ourselves up to receive His healing grace. Jesus said,
"I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit. But apart from me, you can do nothing." (John 5:5) It is in submission to Christ that we are truly set free to be fruitful. Only as we acknowledge our need is He then free to touch us. "Know the truth [Christ], and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)
-
To engage our thankfulness and praise to God. To encourage the free expression of gratitude and adoration to God.
"Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, bust in to jubilant song with music." (Psalm 95:1-3; 98:4)
