The democratic Republic of Congo is the poorest country in Africa. The two recent conflicts which began in 1996 have dramatically reduced national output and government revenue, and increased internal debt. The result has been the deaths of over five million people from war, famine, and disease. Malnutrition now affects approximately two thirds of the country's population.
Constance Free Church is part of a consortium of churches, along with Reach Global (a part of the EFCA), that is working towards the expansion of the Elikya Center, bringing hope to the widows, orphans and unwed mothers in Congo. It is our prayer that we will see the needs in Congo through God's eyes and that we will have a love and compassion for the poor, especially the widows and orphans.Elikya is the Congolese word for hope. Elikya (hope) center is on 500 plus acres of land outside of the city of Gemena. The Congo Free Church has the vision to minister to the widows and orphans in their province. Elikya (hope) center is a place where women can have housing, education, Biblical instruction and life skill training so that they will be able to earn their livelihood for the future. Orphans can grow up with protection, schooling and job skills. Orphans are already being trained in sewing, carpentry and learning how to manufacture soap. Currently they have not been able to keep up with the demand for soap.
The vision of the Elikya (Hope) project is to build a place where widows, orphaned children and single mothers can have housing, education, Biblical instruction, job and life skills training, agricultural opportunities all in an environment of hope and safety. Once they complete the training program they will return to their villages to teach what they have learned as well as become self-sustaining.
As a church our goal is to raise $35,000 to build a center to house widows and orphans.
global fingerprints
Global Fingerprints is an orphan sponsorship program. Through Global Fingerprints (a ministry project of Touch Global) orphans will be able to attend school and receive medical care as necessary.
Your contribution of just $25.00 per month will help pay for education, medical and nutritional needs and clothing. Your support allows children to hear about Jesus and what He has done for them. They will receive love and caring they might have thought was gone forever. The love will be the fingerprint of Jesus on their lives. A child will know someone is praying for them and caring for them. To learn more about Global Fingerprints click here to visit globalfingerprints.org
